Financial Aid Scholarships
Federal Third-Party Awards and Scholarships
- Given through the Army, Navy, Air Force and the USPHS offers Health Professions Scholarships to students interested in serving in the military. Students are required to serve a year as a commissioned officer for each year of participation in the program, with a two-year minimum. These scholarships provide tuition, other academic fees, required books, required equipment and a monthly living stipend.
Sumner Foundation Scholarships Fund
- Established in 1977 by Mrs. E.H. Sumners of Eupora, Miss., to provide scholarship assistance for students from Webster, Montgomery, Attala, Carroll and Choctaw counties who are enrolled at UMMC. Award amounts are based upon funding and vary each year. Applications are available through the UMMC financial aid office.
Eligibility requirements
- The student must be a resident of Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Montgomery or Webster County in Mississippi who desires and can benefit from a higher education.
- All applicants must have resided for 12 continuous months in one of the five Sumners counties prior to enrollment.
- All applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at the institution. Teacher certification courses may also be approved (except for visiting students) if documented as such by the School of Education.
- The amount of the Sumners Grant shall not exceed the cost of attendance when combined with all other types of aid received by the student (including institutional and other scholarships/grants, military stipends, veterans' benefits).
- Independent students who have not established a residence in one of the Sumners counties may not establish eligibility by the address of parents who reside in one of the eligible counties.
- If you withdraw from the university within the 100 percent institutional refund period (the first 10 days of classes), any scholarship already credited to your bursar account must be repaid in full.
To apply for the grant
You must complete the form online and indicate the academic year you are applying for. The Sumners Foundation verifies residency in the appropriate counties for all applicants.
Amount of grant
Since the amount received by UMMC from the Sumners Trust may vary each year as will the number of students enrolled from each of the eligible counties, it is possible that grant amounts may also vary from one year to the next. Note that aid only will be awarded for the summer sessions if a student has remaining eligibility from the previous academic year (defined as June-May). Sumner funds will be paid based on credit hours per term and availability of funds.
Renewal requirements
- A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by the Office of Student Financial Services.
- Application must be made annually.
- All other criteria must be met, including continued residency in a Sumners county.
Note: The recipient cannot receive this award for more than one degree at the same level (e.g., one undergraduate degree, one master's, one doctorate degree).
Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship
- The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation awards annual grants to over 200 accredited educational institutions in nine states. Most scholarship grants support and target nursing and allied health education. With more than 12,000 student receiving scholarships each year in amounts determined by their institutions.

UMMC Employee Programs
Dependent Tuition Waivers for Undergraduate Students
- This waiver is available to children of full-time employees of the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), the University of Mississippi Main Campus or Satellite Centers (Ole Miss), and the IHL Executive Office.

- To apply for the Dependent Tuition Waiver for Undergraduate Students, you must do so through Workday. In the search bar, you will type in ‘Create Request’. Select ‘All’ and then scroll down until you see ‘Dependent Tuition Waivers for Undergraduate students.’
Scholarship for Children of Employees for Graduate and Professional Students
This scholarship is available to children of full-time employees of UMMC and Ole Miss.

- To apply, you must do so through Workday. In the search bar, you will type in ‘Create Request’. Select ‘All’ and then scroll down until you see ‘Graduate and Professional Scholarships for Children of Employees.’
Tuition Benefits at the University of Mississippi
Tuition Benefits at the University of Mississippi may also be available for children of UMMC employees.
Workforce Development Scholarship
Effective 2019, the Workforce Development Scholarship Program has changed, but it remains our intent to foster the professional development of the UMMC workforce within the boundaries of institutional mission priorities and financial resources. A UMMC committee of administrators from throughout all three missions of the institution and led by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs was established to determine the programs of study eligible for the program.
Individuals in the identified programs of study are then eligible to apply, but must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must be a full-time employee for one year prior to application and have recommendation and approval from immediate supervisor.
- Applicant must be approved by Human Resources and not be on progressive discipline program.
- Applicant must be accepted and enrolled in one of the approved programs of study.
- Recipient must maintain good satisfactory academic standing.
- Recipient must agree to a service commitment of (6) six months for each semester benefit received. If recipient resigns prior to completing the service commitment repayment of the scholarship and interest will be converted to an institutional loan.

- Summer – between 4/1 to 6/10
- Fall – between 7/1 to 8/28
- Spring – between 12/1 to 1/23
- M1 & M2 – should apply in Fall and Spring
- M3 & M4 – should apply Summer and Spring
- D1 – should apply Fall and Spring
- D2-D4 – should apply Summer, Fall and Spring
Applications received outside of these dates for the selected term will be denied.
